Virginia Tech Hires Hokie Star D-lineman JC Price to coach the DL: More Hokies Come Home

News Highlights: Virginia Tech Hires Hokie Star D-lineman JC Price to coach the DL: More Hokies Come Home

Marshall goes shopping in the Coaching “Portal”

Do you remember the 2018 disaster and the makeup game with Marshall that got the team back on their feet and ended up being a fun day in a relatively empty Lane Stadium? We were talking about their Assistant Defensive Coordinator being a Hokie Defensive line star from the mid to late 90s (especially the great ’95 defense)?

It looks like JC Price is coming home to Blacksburg. He and his family will take the long journey down 77 and up 81 – no speed in the overlap, JC. They get you.

Normally you’d have to say Price had to fill big shoes, but he has a decade of solid coaching experience, mentored Darryl Tapp and learned from the best – like his fellow defensive coaches and staffers; Bud Foster.

Price’s official title is: Co-Defensive Line Coach / Defensive Recruiting Coordinator

“JC played an integral role in the foundation Tech’s winning tradition and helping the Hokies secure a place on the national podium. Not only are we adding a coach who has nearly two decades of coaching experience, but JC is also bringing another talented recruiter to our ranks. He has a long history of strong relationships with high school coaches across Virginia, particularly in 757, Richmond, and Northern Virginia. He will be a great fit for the rest of our staff and I know our players will respect what JC has accomplished both as a player and as a coach. Justin Fuente

JC Price is therefore not a coaching neophyte. In addition to his stint with Marshall and their medium-sized success story, he was a first-class defensive coach for JMU for 8 years (2004-2011). In that time they won a number of serious awards, including an FCS championship.

Welcome home Coach Price!

As additional news of the deck shaking in the coaching staff, Price is joined by Adam Lechtenberg in the recruiting position. In addition to Lechtenberg taking on a new set of responsibilities, Coach Ryan Smith will coordinate the passing game, in addition to coaching the Cornerbacks.

There might be a bit more shuffling, but it looks like Justin Fuente is hard at work getting former Hokie footballers on the door and staff.

It will be interesting to see what happens in regards to a real spring football schedule. The team really needs it, and now with a coaching shuffle that may not be complete, they definitely need it too.

GO HOKIES !!!
