College Basketball Choices, Schedule: Predictions, Odds for Duke vs. Georgia Tech, other important games Tuesday

News Highlights: College Basketball Choices, Schedule: Predictions, Odds for Duke vs. Georgia Tech, other important games Tuesday

Tuesday’s basketball schedule looks good with six teams in the AP Top 25 in action, including a pivotal Big 12 showdown between rivals No. 5 Texas and No. 24 Oklahoma, and unranked Kentucky headed for Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to cope. No. 9 Alabama.

Headlining the Red River rivalry as the Sooners, who took an impressive win over Kansas, are looking to take their biggest win of the season. They will have the chance to do this against a gritty Texas team as well, as Texas will be without head coach Shaka Smart after he announced on Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19. It is also Texas ‘first game in 10 days after an extended hiatus due to COVID-19 issues in two opponents’ schedules initially expected during that period.

Tuesday is also on Duke-Georgia deck Tech While the Blue Devils try to avoid their longest loss streak since the 2006-2007 season, North Carolina-Pitt at The Pete and No. 18 Tennessee – after their second consecutive defeat – are back on track at home against Mississippi State.

Below is a selection of our staff for all major games, both direct and against the spread.

No. 24 Oklahoma at No. 5 Texas

Last Chances:

Texas Longhorns -3

When: 7 pm | Where: Erwin Center in Austin, Texas TV: ESPN2 | Live stream: fuboTV (Try for free)

This is less of a Texas fade and more of me taking my shot with an Oklahoma team that has been on fire. The Sooners handily beat Kansas over the weekend to extend their winning streak to three and it looks like they are now firing on all cylinders. Texas, on the other hand, has not played a game since January 16 and is expected to be without coach Shaka Smart, who announced on Monday that he has tested positive for COVID-19. With so much uncertainty with the Longhorns, I ride OU in an upset pick. If you dare to throw a little on the cash line for an underdog Tuesday, this is my favorite. Forecast: Oklahoma 71, Texas 70 – Kyle Boone

Kentucky at number 9 Alabama

Last Chances:

Alabama Crimson Tide -7

When: 7 pm | Where: Rupp Arena in Lexington, KentuckyTV: ESPN | Live stream: fuboTV (Try for free)

Even after a somewhat surprising double-digit win over LSU over the weekend, Kentucky hasn’t been very good overall. And Alabama frankly borders on great. The Tide is 8-0 in the season in SEC play and 5-3 in the year as a home favorite against the spread. I like them covering the number here. Erase the Kentucky brand from your head and look at the resume compared to Alabama over the year, and this should be a comfortable home win for Bama. Prediction: Alabama 80, Kentucky 70 – Kyle Boone

Georgia Tech at Duke

Last Chances:

Duke Blue Devils -6

When: 9 p.m. | Where: Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina TV: ESPN | Live stream: fuboTV (Try for free)

The betting market has yet to catch up with one more simple fact this season: Duke isn’t Duke-good. Hasn’t been the whole year. It’s 5-5 in the season and going on a three game loss streak, and yet it’s still a five-point favorite here. I do not get it. This is an opportunity to jump on it before the market corrects itself. The Blue Devils are 0-6 at home against the scatter as favorites this season and Georgia Tech makes it 0-7 with an outright win. Forecast: Georgia Tech 71, Duke 69 – Kyle Boone

North Carolina at Pitt

Last Chances:

North Carolina Tar Heels -3.5

When: 7 pm | Where: Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh TV: ACCN | Live stream: fuboTV (Try for free)

Since the turn of the year, North Carolina has been a different team. It has won five of the last six, the only loss being one of the best ACCs in the state of Florida. And it has done this while taking down NC State, Syracuse and Notre Dame all in tight matches. If this is a good one again – and the line suggests it will indeed be – I like that UNC rules here and covers itself in the process. I easily saw this amount to the fact that the Tar Heels had to make late free throws. Prediction: North Carolina 68, Pitt 64 – Kyle Boone

Mississippi State at No. 18 Tennessee

Last Chances:

Tennessee Volunteers -9.5

When: 7 pm | Where: Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, TennesseeTV: SEC Network | Live stream: fuboTV (Try for free)

I get it, I get it: Tennessee lately doesn’t look like the same Tennessee team we’ve seen opening the season 10-1. But we have to rely on Rick Barnes. The Vols’ attack has been a shell in itself in consecutive losses against Florida and Mizzou, but this creates a major bounceback here in Knoxville for that unit. Mississippi State has the fourth worst defense in custom efficiency stats at KenPom. Things should click again on that side. And even if they don’t, Tennessee’s third-placed defense will give the Bulldogs attacks. It must be a nice combination to set up a UT cover. Forecast: Tennessee 75, Mississippi State 60 – Kyle Boone
